Upcoming: first Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality all-in-one solution

Next week the new Eligo platform by Seac02 will be released, and I definately am looking forward to it.

Eligo provides a painless Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technology in order to keep and stay focused on your vertical business instead of the underlying enabling technology. Eligo runs on Seac02’s own technology LinceoVR.
In a few clicks you’ll be able to develop custom Virtual and Augmented Reality vertical solutions: from web viral marketing, to stand-alone applications and from e-commerce to mobile applications.

Some of the interesting features of Eligo are the following:

Markerless Augmented Reality
Markerless Augmented Reality

Real-time Animations
Realtime Animations

Realtime Raytracing
Realtime Raytracing

Realtime Raytracing 2
Two examples of applications which are build are:

3D Hair Salon
Realtime 3D Hair Salon

Realtime Try-ON
Realtime Try ON

A few key factors which are interesting for the AR and VR industry from an adoptive point of view (in relation to sales) is the fact that Eligo will provide a solution which is much less dependent on technicality and it has an easy and unified deployment. Unified refers that the platform is suitable for PC, Web and Mobile applications.
Furthermore Eligo provides a very high visual quality ensuring the virtual objects are identical to the real ones which is important for businesses to create memorable experiences and therefore add value and influences the buying process and decision making.

Eligo will aim at Creative Agencies, Gaming companies, Retail companies, Advertising companies, Consultancy agencies and all those who will benefit in offering superimposed experiences along side their current strategies/techniques, be it in a complementary way or in an extra way.

Stay tuned at Seac02 for more information on Eligo.

This sounds great on the surface, but these AR companies need to realize that consumers are not going to download proprietary software/plug-ins to view any type of AR. It’s like history is repeating itself all over again, b/c back in 2003 3D companies were all about forcing proprietary plug-ins on consumers and they were quickly rejected. It’s only a matter of time until brands and marketers will not fund or accept proprietary AR apps that require a download.

There’s a reason why AR has blown up over the last year and it has more to do with FLARtoolkit and it’s accessibility to create online AR that works without a plug-in and with latest version of Flash.

I strongly agree with Matthew and I can give a specific case. At Impossible Software, we do video compression in real time for 100’s of channels. This enables server-side rendering for a web site… and a simple standard video player (like Flash) on the client side. Why does this matter? Well, we have had substantial interest from the Auto industry. In one case, we were contacted specifically because the client wanted to replace a 3D viewer based on a plug-in.

I am not saying server-side rendering is the answer to everything. However, the case here demonstrates Matthew’s point: plug-ins will be replaced as soon as the technology allows.

Though I am no expert in AR plugs for the web – I can talk about my experiences with realtime 3D on the web.

And… actually Unity is down to 3mb now – rather than some of the heavier ‘older’ plugs such as Quest 3d etc. http://unity3d.com/webplayer/

But it’s true, Flash is the what we have to shoot for.

Unfortunately, Adobe and Flash is going nowhere with 3D – that third party developers have been writing applications to pre-render 3D objects – which is an illusion of 3D which creates a nightmare in terms way many layers, frames, scenes, and transitions to create the very basic level of 3D interactions. They still expect people to build their own 3D engines for crying out loud!

My work around with Twinners to create realtime 3d using Flash http://www.interactivechatsystems.com – was to pre render 3D in Realtime Quest 3D on a box, then capture it with screencast plug and push out through Wowza to the net in Flash. Interaction and piloting of the characters was done using telephony 2.0, so there was some lag time between pressing #14 and waving at someone. For instance. While the Quest3D experience was brilliant. The 80 mb plugin download was ridiculous though…..

Primitive yes. But it worked… Albeit not well.

I agree that flash is better for marketing purposes, where viral campaign request to engage quickly all the online users, but flash has some limits to be used as sales tool, it does not solve the biggest trouble, companies wants to have the producs (virtual) like real ones, and it is not possible to do right now with flash, neither create a short pipeline from cad model to ar web experience. Create online e-commerce experience for hundreds of products all in flash costs a lot.
The Users if the plugin works well, and let’s them to experience the products, install it, and use it.

Not sure if the first image is markerless as the caption suggests

    @Anees
You’re correct, the first is not markerless, but the second it, they are both on it to distinguish the difference.
